The CMA published its final veterinary-services market investigation decision in March 2026. Its remedies include requirements around ownership information, basic service information, standard price lists, pet-care-plan information and a practice-comparison remedy.
When will veterinary price-list changes take effect?
The CMA’s current implementation guidance says the substantive Order and undertakings are expected in September 2026. Larger veterinary businesses are expected to comply with the relevant information remedies from December 2026, with smaller businesses following in March 2027. Timings can change while implementation is completed, so check the CMA source for the latest position.
What will this mean for pet owners?
More consistent published information should make it easier to understand standard fees before booking and to compare practices. It will not make every veterinary bill identical or fully predictable: urgent care, diagnostics, medicines, procedures, hospitalisation, travel and individual clinical needs can still change the final cost.
Why like-for-like comparison still matters
A published price is only useful when the service is comparable. A standard consultation should not be mixed with a nurse consultation, an emergency attendance fee should not be treated as the total cost of emergency treatment, and euthanasia-only pricing should not be ranked against packages that also include cremation.
